| The Alsto Story takes you from Cleveland back to Cleveland. Our company got its start in Cleveland, Ohio, back in 1958. In that simpler time, Al Stocking, our founder, combined his first and last names into "Alsto's" and printed a basic black-and-white catalog. That modest beginning is where our tradition of well-chosen, well-functioning products, and satisfying customer service, got its start. Pleasing our customers with products that truly deliver on their promises is the simple idea that has allowed Alsto's to expand to where we are today. In the 1980s our growing company's home base was relocated to the heart of the Midwest, in Galesburg, Illinois, where we became well known for our practical "Handy Helpers." In the early 1990s, we personified our company in the character of Benjamin "Ben" Alsto. Dressed in a plaid shirt and holding a cup of coffee, Ben represented to us that person in your family who always seemed to have a smart, effective way tosolve problems. Fastidiously organized, friendly, experienced, and totally trustworthy, Ben was someone you could always count on. While no longer featured in our catalogs, the principles he stood for remain important to us. It was Christmas 2004 when we came full circle, returning to our roots in Cleveland, becoming an integral part of HSN's Catalog Division based there. (Had we known it would become such a rockin' city, we never would have left!) |
